ShotSpotter Device Detects Over a Dozen Rounds of Gunfire on South 15th Street in Newark

Police in Newark are investigating a shots-fired incident in a section of the city Wednesday night. 

Residents in the vicinity of 735 South 15th Street notified police when they heard gunfire in their neighborhood around 10:35 p.m.

A ShotSpotter device activated and alerted police of over a dozen rounds. 

Units arrived at the scene and found multiple shell casings in the rear yard of one of the buildings in the area. 

After canvassing the neighborhood, no injuries were reported. 

The suspect fled the scene and is at large. 

Police are determining who the suspect's target was.
