Newark Man Identified as West Ward Fatal Shooting Victim

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable have announced that authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred earlier Sunday morning  in Newark, NJ. 

Authorities have confirmed that the incident occurred in the 100 block of Halsted Street shortly before 3:00 am.  A spokesperson fot the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said police officers responded to a reports of shots fired in progress in that area.

Authorities said arriving officers located an adult male,  suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, lying in the street at that location. The victim, is being identified by authorities as Tarad Tolliver, age 26 of Newark, was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced at 3:23 am.

Authorities said the incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. The investigation is  ongoing and active at this time, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
