Authorities in Newark are investigating a shots-fired incident that injured a person in the city's Central Ward overnight.
Shortly before 10:30 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of Bergen and Winans Avenue.
Officers arrived and found shell casings, but a search of the neighborhood indicated no victims.
While officers canvassed the scene, hospital officials notified police when a male gunshot victim entered the emergency department suffering gunshot wounds.
Police believe the victim was shot at the Bergen Street crime scene.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
