Police in Newark are investigating a shooting in the city's North Ward that occurred overnight.
Heavy gunfire rang out in the 200 block of Summer Ave. shortly before 4:15 a.m. sending police to the scene where several shell casings were found. Authorities canvassing the area found a house in the 50's block of 2nd Ave. penetrated by gunfire. Bullet fragments reportedly landed in the living space of a resident's home at that location.
Police set up a crime scene where they thoroughly searched the area, going door to door checking on residents and searching for evidence.
There were no injuries reported.
