Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that injured a person in Newark's West Ward on Sunday night.
A ShotSpotter device detected several rounds of gunfire near South 19th Street and 14th Avenue intersection around 7:35 p.m.
Police arrived at the scene and found several shell casings, but no victim was located.
While investigators searched the scene, officials learned that a gunshot victim drove himself to Unversity Hospital suffering seeking treatment. The victim reportedly struck a building at the hospital with the vehicle while he rushed to get assistance.
The condition of the man has not immediately been reported as fatal.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation, and no arrests have been reported.
