Police in Newark are looking into the motive for a shooting that injured a person in Newark's South Ward on Tuesday morning.
A preliminary investigation indicated that at approximately 12:30 a.m., police responded to reports of shots fired near 193 Shephard Avenue, prompting a police investigation.
Several units arrived and searched the area for victims but could only find shell casings and a rail of fresh blood that led authorities into an apartment at that location.
Officials say while investigating the scene, University Hospital officials announced that a gunshot victim entered the emergency room suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
Police believe that the hospital walk-in victim was injured at the Shephard Avenue shooting scene.
The investigation into the shooting remains active and ongoing.
