Gunfire Erupts Across the Street from Newark's Police Headquarters

Police checked hospitals in the region for potential gunshot victims after gunfire rang out in a section of the city's South Ward Tuesday evening. 

Officers responded to reports of shots fired near 477 Clinton Avenue around 8:50 p.m. 

Units arrived and found shell casings across the street from the Newark Police Headquarters, but after searching the area, no victims were found. 

Shooting

Police say officers canvassing the area located about nine shell casings. 

The suspect ran from the scene and is at large. 

It is not believed that the police station was the target of the attack, but police have not confirmed who or what was at this time.
