UPDATED: Clothing Store Employee Shot in Newark South Ward

Newark Police are looking into the circumstances behind a shooting incident that left an employee of a clothing store injured Monday evening. 

In a corrected statement, police said a gunman entered the business located at 289 Elizabeth Avenue around 6 p.m. and announced a robbery. 

During the incident, an employee was shot and seriously wounded. He was found sitting in front of the Jersey Fried Chicken suffering a bullet wound in his arm police said in a corrected statement.

The suspect fled the scene and is at large. 

Police say the when they arrived at the store, clothing and other items were thrown on the floor. 

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
