An early morning shooting at a club in Newark's Upper West Ward sent one person to the hospital suffering serious injuries.
According to Newark Public Safety Director O'Hara, at approximately 2:45 a.m, police officers rushed to investigate reports of shots fired that rang out at 795 Sandford Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found a crowd exiting the Family Manor Restaurant and witnesses reporting to police that a male gunshot victim was taken away from the scene in a private car.
Witnesses told RLS Media that a peaceful event/party inside the establishment quickly turned violent when a male entered the restaurant with a gun and began to fire rounds in the victim's direction.
While officers set up a crime scene to search for evidence, officials at Beth Israel Hospital notified Newark Police that a victim entered the emergency department suffering bullet wounds.
According to Director O'Hara, the victim was initially treated then transferred to University Hospital for additional assistance. He remains at the hospital this morning.
Police believe that there may have been more than one shooter, but no other injuries were reported.
The suspect is at large at this time.
