Police in Irvington reported fatal injuries for a man found shot in a section of the Township Thursday evening.
At around 7:40 p.m., gunfire rang out in the area of Grove and Highland Terrace sending police to the scene to investigate.
Units arrived and found the unidentified male severely injured at that location, according to Irvington township officials.
Medical professionals pronounced the victim dead a short time later.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office were notified of the shooting and will lead the investigation.
The suspect fled the scene and is at large.
