NY Man Struck, Injured in Teaneck Hit-and-Run

A New York man walking on a Teaneck street to avoid snow on sidewalk was struck and injured yesterday, police said.

The unidentified 55-year-old man was walking on Chadwick Road to avoid the snow on the sidewalk when he was struck by a van, Teaneck police said.

The pedestrian was transported to Holy Name Hospital with a broken leg.

The van driven by 54-year-old James Cook Jr., fled the scene but a witness was able to provided police with the plate number of the fleeing van. 

An police sergeant working on Queen Anne Road and Cedar Lane observed the van and pulled it over in a Cedar Lane parking lot.

According to police, it was determined that Cook Jr.was under the influence of alcohol.

Cook was charged with assault by auto in a school zone, driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury and endangering an injured victim, along with motor vehicle summonses. 

He posted $4,500 bail and was scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
