Wrong-Way Crash Kills Motorcyclist on Route 1&9 in Elizabeth

One person was pronounced dead at the scene of a motorcycle crash in Elizabeth Saturday morning. 

According to police, at approximately 3:15 a.m., emergency responders were called to Route 1&9 north near the Renaissance Hotel to investigate reports of a crash. 

Fatal Crash

Police and EMS arrived and found a severely injured, unconscious and unresponsive motorcyclist who was ejected from his bike at that location. Authorities are still trying to determine this scenario. 

An initial investigation indicated that the motorcycle driver was heading the wrong way on Route 1&9 when he struck a car head-on. 

Fatal Motorcycle Crash

According to reports, the impact of the collision reportedly sent the motorcyclist flying from the bike and caused an instant fatality. 

Police closed that section of Route 1&9 for the crash investigation. 

According to police, this is the second fatal motorcycle crash -almost in the same spot- in less than a week on 1&9 on the Elizabeth/Newark border. 

There were no other serious injuries reported and the crash is under investigation.
