Newark Police closed off a housing complex section in the city's Central Ward after a shots-fired incident resulted in a male shot on Tuesday night.
According to police, shooters fired rounds of gunfire near the Howard Street side of Pilgrim Village shortly before 6:30 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found shell casings, but there were no victims located during their canvas around the complex.
A short time later, police say officials at University Hospital notified them when a male victim entered the emergency department suffering a bullet wound.
Police say the vehicle that dropped off the victim was held for the investigation.
