Man Shot, Fatally Injured Inside 'Chicken Shack' in Newark

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable have announced that authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon in Newark, NJ.  

The incident took place inside the eatery located in the 400 block of Springfield Avenue shortly before 5:00 p.m.according to authorities.

 Newark police officers responded to this area on a report of a shooting. Officers located the victim, who has been identified as Tykwan A. Crenshaw, age 20, of Newark. Crenshaw, who was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:21 pm.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. The investigation is  ongoing at this time, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
