Authorities in Essex County are investigating a shots-fired incident that caused property damage on the Newark-Irvington border overnight.
According to a preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of Springfield and Avon avenues around 12:45 a.m.
Police officers arrived at the scene and requested Irvington Police after they found multiple shell casings in the area, but no victims were located after officers searched the scene.
Bullets struck a house and a car, but police say no one inside was struck by gunfire.
In a possible separate incident, officials at East Orange General Hospital contacted police when a gunshot victim entered the emergency department around 1:10 a.m.
Authorities have not immediately confirmed if the incidents are all connected at this time.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
