Derek Armstead Sworn in as Linden's First African American Mayor

Derek Armstead was officially sworn in last night making history as the first African African mayor in the City of Linden.

The ceremony began at 7 p.m.at the City Hall, located at 301 North Wood Avenue.

Numerous residents attended the historical ceremony as they watch the mayor and the newly-elected city council members be sworn in for their respective four-year terms.

Among the newly elected was Council President Jorge Alvarez, who also made history in Linden, as he became the first Hispanic Council President.

After the inauguration, a celebration followed at Nuno's Pavilion on Roselle Street in Linden.
