There is an active search underway for several suspects who drove through a neighborhood and Newark and fired several shots that injured a person Friday afternoon
According to a preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang in the vicinity of 455 South 18th Street just before 1 p.m.
Police arrived and found a male suffering non-fatal gunshot wounds after shooters pulled up in the area in a yellow Camaro with black stripes and began firing shots.
Police say the unidentified victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and there were no reports of a fatality as of 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
According to police, the vehicle was reported stolen from Elizabeth with Texas license plate number "HXX-082".
The motive for the shooting has not been determined at this time.
