There is an active and ongoing investigation underway into a shooting that injured a male in a section of Newark's South Ward Friday night.
According to a preliminary investigation, shooters arrived in the 800 block of South 15th Street and began to fire multiple rounds at unknown targets just before 8 p.m.
Fast responding Newark South Ward Police officers arrived at the scene and immediately taped the area off after locating shell casings on the ground, but after they searched the scene, there were no victims found.
According to police, officials at University Hospital contacted police when a male gunshot victim entered the emergency department suffering bullet wounds a little before 8:10 p.m.
The victim reported to police that he suffered his injuries near 847 South 15th Street shortly before arriving at the hospital.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been reported.
