Man Found Shot Near West Side Park in Newark

Police in Newark are looking into the motive behind a shooting that injured a male in the city's West Ward Saturday night.

The incident happened at approximately 10:40 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of 16th Avenue and South 15th Street.

Units arrived at the scene found a male victim suffering bullet wounds in close proximity to the police precinct.

The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and remained in an unspecified condition.

Police are trying to determine if the shooting happened near the park of the victim attempted to get help from officers inside the precinct after being shot elsewhere.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation by the Newark Police Department.
