A ShotSpotter activation alerted police of a shooting in a section of Newark’s Central Ward this evening.
According to police, it happened just before 7:49 p.m. in the vicinity of 504 Springfield Avenue, near Blum Street, where police arrived to find a male victim suffering a bullet wound in his leg.
After officers canvassed the area for several minutes, they located a second male suffering non-life-threatening gunshot injuries to his back and buttocks.
Police say both victims were transported to University Hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
The suspects fled the scene and remain at large.
In a separate incident, police were alerted of a shooting after a ShotSpotter activation detected gunfire in the 900 block of 10th Street around 7:53 p.m.
Units arrived and searched South 12th Street after witnesses told officers they saw a gunshot victim flee the scene, but police have not located anyone injured at this time.
There has been three shootings in less than 24-hours that connected on six individuals with one confirmed fatality.
The motive for both incidents are under investigation.
