Gunmen Fire Multiple Rounds That Struck Male in Newark's Central Ward

Police have not located a suspect wanted for a late-night shooting that injured a male in Newark's Central Ward Friday.

According to police, shooters fired just over a half dozen rounds in the area of 348 15th Avenue around 11:22 p.m.

Police rushed to the scene and found shell casings, but while searching for a victim, officers were told by witnesses that a vehicle sped away from the scene with a person shot inside.

A short time later, officials at University Hospitals notified officers that a male victim entered the emergency room suffering bullet wounds. His condition could not be confirmed.

According to police, the investigation is being led by the department's Major Crimes division.
