First African American Police Captain in Linden, Graduates from Prestigious Class

Linden

Linden Police Captain Jonathan Parham recently graduated from the 46thSession of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) “Command and Leadership” Academy.

The 14 week training course originated in 1993 when NJSACOP officials partnered with the U.S. Military Academy at West Point to adopt a command and leadership model for law enforcement.

Candidates with the greatest leadership potential are selected for this highly competitive program from all areas of the state.

Linden Police Chief James M. Schulhafer attended the graduation ceremony and congratulated the captain on his achievement.

Captain Parham, a 23-year veteran of the department, was promoted to his present rank in July, 2014.

He is the first African-American to achieve the rank of captain in the Linden Police Department.

He is presently assigned as the commander of the Support Services Division, which includes responsibility and oversight of the Records and Evidence Units, and the 9-1-1 Central Dispatch Unit.
