Police in Newark issued an arrest warrant for Ms. Yanissa Hammond, 23, of Newark in connection with an aggravated assault shooting of a 33-year-old Newark woman that occurred on May 11.
According to Newark officials, police responded to the 200 block of 18th Avenue around 9:30 p.m. on a call of a shooting.
When they arrived, officers located a woman who had been shot following a quarrel with a woman she knows.
Director Ambrose said Hammond has multiple warrants from our agency, including two older warrants for a robbery and one for a pointing incident.
Detectives investigating this incident have identified Hammond as a suspect in this incident and obtained a warrant for her arrest on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Hammond is described as 4’9” tall and 140 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
