PARSIPPANY – Despite a wet and windy forecast, Mayor Soriano says tomorrow’s Mobile Food Delivery will continue as planned.
On Friday, April 24 beginning at 10:30 am, Parsippany-Troy Hills Mayor Michael Soriano, Pastor Sidney Williams, Bethel Church of Morristown, the Latter Day Saints Church of Dover, municipal workers, and community volunteers will join the Table of Hope for the fourth Mobile Food Delivery at the Liquid Church parking lot, located at 299 Webro Road in Parsippany.
Hundreds of meals of meat, canned food, produce, dairy, and juices will be placed into the trunks of vehicles with almost no personal interaction, other than a few welcoming waves from a volunteers’ glove-wrapped hands, and smiles obscured by facemasks.
This mobile food giveaway is expected to be in high-demand again from residents, as the Township, state, and country continue to deal with an economic downturn resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
With additional challenges faced with food accessibility in grocery stores, as well as adhering to the state’s stay-at-home orders, many residents see the benefit of these Mobile Food Delivery events.
“We’ve served over 500 meals to families all over the area because of these mobile food drives,” said Mayor Michael Soriano, who’s been at each Mobile Food Delivery event directing traffic, packing bags of food, and overseeing the volunteers.
“We know from the line of cars we’ve seen, and how early residents are coming, how important this event is.
Nobody should go hungry, and we’ll be out here every Friday, as long as we can, providing essential food items to people in need.”
According to United Way, many areas around Morris County are comprised of ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) residents – working poor individuals and families living paycheck to paycheck, who are particularly vulnerable during this time.
“There’s a lot of people here that are on that level, just trying to maintain the mortgage and a reasonable quality of life,” said Pastor Sidney Williams.
“In times like this, when people aren’t able to work, you’ve got your kids at home, and you’re simply trying to survive and make the dollar stretch, this Mobile Food Delivery helps people.”
The Mobile Food Delivery will take place every Friday beginning at 10:30 am. Residents who need additional assistance during this time are also encouraged to visit Parsippany’s food pantry, located at 1130 Knoll Road in Lake Hiawatha.
