Authorities Identify Man Found Fatally Shot Near Newark Park

Newark -- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a fatal shooting.

Last night at approximately 11:28 p.m. Newark Police officers responded to a call in the vicinity of 1st Street and 6th Avenue.

When they arrived they found Elijah Adams, 25, of Vauxhall, in a car suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. Adams was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:48 pm.

At this time no arrests have been made. No suspects have been identified. The investigation is active and ongoing, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly.
