UPDATE: Police Arrest Man for Shooting at Newark ShopRite

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Maurice Hutchins, 22, of Newark, for an aggravated assault shooting that occurred yesterday.

According to police, at approximately 5:15 p.m., a man was shot outside of the Shoprite grocery store, located at 206 Springfield Avenue.

The victim was transported to University Hospital, where he is reportedly in stable condition.

Detectives investigating this incident said they observed Hutchins, a suspect, in the area of 56 Haynes Street and he was immediately arrested.

Hutchins is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and conspiracy.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Police seek the public’s help in identifying two additional suspects wanted for questioning in this incident and pictured below.
