Police Search for Man who Fired Shot at his Brother for Threatening to Kill Mother

Newark

Newark Police officials have announced that a ShotSpotter activation led Newark police to a domestic violence situation where a man fired a gun at his brother, who threatened to kill their mother with a baseball bat.

According to a statement released by police, Mr. Dashon Miles is wanted after firing a single shot from a 9mm handgun at his brother, Keson Miles, during a family altercation on South 19th Street.

Police issued a warrant for Mile's arrest for aggravated assault and a variety of weapons charges.

According to police, the incident began after Keson Miles made multiple threats against the mother of the two men.

When they began to argue around midnight on Saturday, the mother retreated to a bedroom where she passed out and another relative called an ambulance according to police.

The verbal altercation between the brothers turned physical and Dashon Miles retreated from the house and when Keson went out to the third-floor balcony of the home to continue the verbal assault, Dashon Miles fired one shot into the balcony floor police said.

According to police, after being shot at, Keson Miles continued to threaten his mother and tried to break down the door in the house with the metal baseball bat.

The gunshot was picked up by the ShotSpotter recorder in the area where police responded immediately and found a bullet casing and a live round on the sidewalk beneath the third-floor balcony of the house.

Police officials say officers also saw a bullet mark underneath the balcony floor.
