Authorities today announced the arrest of six individuals in connection with what authorities described as a vengeful shooting, that killed 14-year-old Nazerah Bugg and left another teen injured.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrests of six in connection with the shooting. Among the arrested were: Shakeem Ricks, 20; Nyja Johnson, 19; Tyheem Mayfield, 22, a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds.
Investigation revealed that hours before Bugg was killed, one of the 17-year-old’s car was shot at in the area of East Main Street and Holsman Street, Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said. As part of alleged retaliation the 17-year-old and a group of people later fired at a group of people outside Mom’s Fried Chicken on North Main and Clinton streets.
According to authorities, based on the circumstances surrounding the shooting both are believed to have been victims of crossfire during a neighborhood dispute rather than targeted.
Although no weapons have been recovered, police believe that at least 15 shots were fired using at least two handguns.
Men have been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and weapon possession.
Authorities are still on the search for a seventh suspect, identified as 22-year-old Baseem Williams.
