A shooting that sent a male to the hospital in Newark has authorities investigating the motive behind the incident.
According to preliminary reports, multiple rounds of gunfire erupted in the South Ward community of Elizabeth Avenue and Alpine Street shortly before 5 p.m.
Units arrived at the scene and found a male victim in his early 20's suffering gunshot wounds according to reports.
EMS transported the victim to University Hospital where doctors treated the victim. The extent of the victim's injuries could not immediately be confirmed.
Witnesses familiar with the incident reported that the victim is a City of Newark employee, but officials did not immediately return requests for information to verify what department the young man is employed.
Newark Police detectives are looking into who shot the man and for what purpose.
There were no arrests made.
