UPDATED: Linden Car Crash Shuts Down All Lanes on Route 1

**UPDATE 8:21a.m. One fatality confirmed**

Police closed down all lanes on Route 1 in Linden for a crash investigation where serious injuries were reported.

According to preliminary reports, police were called to West Edgar Avenue near Pleasant Street after they received reports of a crash with injuries and possible trapped occupants just before 2:35 a.m.

Emergency responders and rescue crews arrived at the scene to find a severely damaged car with at least one injured victim.

EMS transported the victim/s to the hospital where doctors began to treat the patients. The crash left debris on the highway.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation

**LINDEN POLICE UPDATED 5:47 A.M.:**

“Just after 2:15 a.m. a car traveling north on W. Edgar Rd (Route 1) collided with tractor heading north at Pleasant Ave. The two occupants of the car were both taken to Newark University Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor was not injured.

Route 1 will be closed in both directions between Avenue C and W. Grand Ave. The closure is expected to last several hours”.
