An early morning shooting that occurred on a Newark South Ward street has police officials in Newark on the search for a suspect.
According to police, several 911 calls reports shots fired in the 200 block of Hawthorne Avenue had police on the scene at approximately 2:20 a.m. where officers canvassing the area found several shell casings, but a thorough search did not indicate any victims.
Witnesses say a black or dark-colored car -possibly a Charger or Chrysler - occupied by suspects fired rounds as the vehicle sped down the block.
Police set up a crime scene where they collected evidence to support a motive for the shooting.
The suspects remain at-large.
