Police Respond to Overnight ShotSpotter Activation in Newark Neighborhood

Police in Newark are on the search for a gunman who fired off round in a neighborhood in the city during the overnight hours.

It happened in the 400 block of Avon Avenue at approximately 1 a.m. where authorities were alert of gunfire by a ShotSpotter activation.

According to preliminary reports, police arrived and found several shell casings, but there were no reports of victims after officers canvassed the neighborhood.

A crime scene was requested to the area to conduct a further investigation.

The suspect remains at-large according to police.
