Second Shooting in Less Than 24-Hours Reported in Newark's West Ward

Police in Newark are investigating a second shooting that occurred in less than 24-hours in the city’s West Ward.

According to preliminary reports, officers responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 50’s block of Oakland Terrace at approximately 3:40 pm where officers arrived at the scene to find a male victim suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.

The victim was rushed to University Hospital where his injuries were not reported as life threatening.

Police are attempting to determine if the incident is related to a shooting that left a male suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the face on Thursday evening in the vicinity of South Orange Avenue near Salem Street.

Both incidents remain under investigation by Newark Police.

There were no arrests made.
