Shooting Victim Arrives at Newark Hospital in Taxi Cab

Police in Newark are continuing to investigate a shooting that injured a male in the city overnight.

Officials from University Hospital contacted police when a male victim entered the hospital's emergency room suffering gunshot wounds at approximately 3:45 a.m.

Police immediately learned that the victim was dropped off by taxi to the hospital. The victim was fired upon more than a half-dozen times according to preliminary reports.

Officers searched the 600 block of South 11th Street after they received reports of shots fired before the victim arrived at University Hospital. Units searched the area and found shell casings, but police officials are attempting to determine the exact location where the victim was shot.

The investigation into the incident remains active and ongoing.
