Police in Newark has launched an investigation into a shooting that left a woman severely injured overnight in the city.
Gunfire erupted in the Roseville and 6th avenues just before 11 p.m. sending police to the scene where they found evidence that a shooting occurred at that location. Officers found a vehicle struck by bullets along with several shell casings according to reports.
According to preliminary reports, a female victim checked into the University Hospital suffering gunshot injuries to the back, arm, and breast.
Doctors at the hospital began treating the woman for her injuries which are reported as serious but stable as of 5:10 a.m.
Police have not released a motive for the shooting which remains under remains under investigation.
