Police in Newark are on the search for a shooting suspect who opened fire in a neighborhood causing injuries to one person overnight.
Reports of shots fired rang out in the 100 block of South 13th Street just before midnight sending police to the scene where they arrived to find a male victim suffering a gunshot injury to the chest according to preliminary reports.
EMS transported the conscious and alert victim to University Hospital where doctors began treatment.
Reports say a black male suspect exited a red colored SUV and began to fire shots in the direction of the victim before he sped away from the scene.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
