Authorities in Newark are investigating an overnight shooting that occurred in the city's South Ward that left a teenage boy seriously injured.
Police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Meeker and Custer Place around 1:30 a.m. where they found the male victim, (who is said to be around 15-years-old) shot and seriously injured. EMS rushed to boy to University Hospital reportedly suffering a gunshot wound to the back of the neck.
Police searched the area for a possible suspect and other evidence for several hours. A black male wearing a light colored hoodie and blue jeans was seen in the area shortly after the shooting.
Newark Police are investigating.
