Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which include detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the fatal shooting of Mr. Shahad Smith, 28, of Bloomfield.
Police say Smith was shot outside in the 700 block of Martin Luther King Jr., Boulevard in Newark on Monday at approximately 5:42 p.m.
Medical staff pronounced Smith dead at the scene at 6:06 p.m.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
According to police, no arrests have been made.
