Police set up a crime scene in the vicinity of Central Avenue and Market Street to investigate a shooting that sent a man to the hospital overnight.
University Hospital officials contacted police when a male victim suffering a gunshot wound arrived by private vehicle to the emergency room shortly before midnight.
The victim reported to police that he suffered his injury when an unidentified assailant approached with a gun then opened fire on him near the PNC Bank before he arrived at the hospital.
Police officers searched the area and found multiple shell casings and other evidence to assist in the investigation.
The victim's injuries were not immediately reported as life-threatening.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
