A shooting that sent several people to the hospital overnight in Newark is under investigation.
The shooting happened around 3 a.m. near the intersection of Fleming Avenue and Richards Street where police responded to reports of shots fired with injuries reported.
Newark Police officers arrived at the scene to find a male and a female struck by gunfire according to reports.
Preliminary reports said, the woman suffered a severe leg injury while the man was transported to University Hospital suffering a gunshot injury to the back.
Shortly before 3:30 a.m., officials from University Hospital contacted police when a third victim was dropped off by private vehicle suffering a non-life threatening gunshot injury.
Police are looking for a male suspect with dreads who reportedly sprayed the area with multiple bullets, then fled the scene. Police canvassing the Riverview Court housing complex found a vehicle struck by bullets.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
