Newark Police helicopter NPD1 hovered over the scene of a shooting that occurred in the city's Central Ward late last night.
Officers from the Essex County Sherriff's Department were on the scene investigating an incident where officers located an unoccupied running vehicle with reports of a weapon inside at around 9:45 p.m. when gunfire rang out in the 30's block of Mercer according to reports.
Police requested assistance from NPD 1 to secure the area as they established a crime scene on the block that has Perry's Funeral Home a short distance from the shooting scene.
Evidence that a shooting had occurred was located, but there were no injured victims.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
