Man Attempting to Shield Young Child From Gunfire, Struck Several Times Near Newark Housing Complex Family Member Said

An early morning shooting that left a man seriously injured outside a housing complex in the city, has police investigating and on the search for the shooter. 

A family member of the victim would only  identify the man as a 21-year-old who was on his way to transport his 3-year-old child home from the Georgia King Village housing complex during the early morning hours Monday when someone unloaded a barrage of bullets, striking the man multiple times while he attempted to shield his child according to the close relative. 

The man was rushed to University Hospital by a good samaritan and the child was quickly taken into the house of the man's friend. 

Police searched and setup crime scenes  near the 100 block of  Littleton Ave. and around Georgia King Village. 

The child was not injured during the shooting according to the relative. The man was listed in stable condition. 

Police are investigating.
