EMS rushed a severely injured woman to University Hospital after gunfire rang out in a neighborhood overnight in Newark, striking the woman.
The city's 9th shooting in less than 48-hours had police in the 300 block of Hunterdon Street, shortly before midnight, where reports of shots fired called in by residents placed police on the scene to investigate.
According to preliminary reports, police found a woman, in her early 20's, suffering injuries after being shot multiple times.
A crime scene established and search of the area had officers locate several shell casings according to reports.
The latest shooting incident adds to a violent shooting spree that has gripped the city since 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon where seven people were shot around the city within a three-hour time frame with two of the shooting incidents resulting in fatalities according to The Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

The motive for the shootings are under investigations.
