There are two crime scene established in Newark as police investigate the circumstances behind two shooting that has victims injured in Newark.
According to preliminary reports, officials at University Hospital contacted police when a male victim suffering a gunshot wound to the leg arrived by private vehicle to the emergency department at around 2:30 p.m. The victim reported to authorities that while walking eastbound on Springfield Avenue near the Wendy's, he heard gunfire then felt pain in his leg.
The victim's injury is reported as non-life threatening. It is not clear if police ever located a crime scene.
Shortly before 3 p.m., residents in the 700 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard called 911 when they heard multiple gunshots that rang out in the area and a male victim carried by several people into a car that sped away.
Police arrived at the scene and found nearly a dozen shell casings then later learned that the shooting victim showed up at the hospital suffering a gunshot wound.
A third gunshot victim arrived at the hospital around at 3:00 p.m. and told officers he suffered his injuries at the Martin Luther King Boulevard location.
There are no fatal injuries at this time.
It is not clear if the shootings are connected at this time.
There is an active investigation underway.
