Police Investigate Six Separate Newark Shootings in Less than 24-Hours

Police are investigating multiple separate shootings that erupted in Newark neighborhoods in the past 24-hours.

The latest shooting occurred shortly before noon today (Tuesday) near the intersection of Broad Street at Pennington Street where police arrived at the scene for reports of shots fire.

Units arrived at the scene to find evidence that a shooting occurred, but no victims immediately found. Police placed hospitals in the area on alert for any possible victims who may arrive for treatment.

Police are also investigating an early morning shooting that had officers in the area of South 11th Street and Gould Avenue. The incident happened shortly before 1 a.m. sending police to the scene where they found an injured male who reported to them that he was approached by an armed black male suspect who demanded cash.

According to reports shortly after a brief physical struggle, the suspect fired at least one round at the victim before running from the scene.

The suspect wore dark clothing, a white mask, and armed with a handgun.

Police believe that the suspect fled the scene in a blue van or SUV. The victim suffered minor scrapes, and bruises but was not shot reports said.
