Separate Overnight Shootings Cause Injuries in Newark

A set of shootings that occurred overnight in Newark has authorities searching for suspects.

In the first incident, Newark police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the area of Munn Avenue, and South Orange Avenue before 10:30 p.m. where first arriving officers located evidence that a shooting had occurred and a male victim reportedly struck multiple times by gunfire at that location.

Fast responding EMS units provided medical assistance before they transported the victim to University Hospital where he was listed in stable condition as of 3:30 a.m.

Police searched the area around the Bradley Court Housing development where the shooting possibly occurred according to reports.

A dark colored vehicle was observed speeding away from the scene immediately after the shooting reports said.

In the other shooting incident, gunfire erupted on South 7th Street sending police to the scene where officers found one person suffering a gunshot injury at that location.

The victim was transported to University Hospital in an unknown condition.

The motive for both shootings are under investigation.

There were no immediate reports of arrests reported.
