Police in Elizabeth are investigating an early morning shooting that left three people with injuries today.
Gunfire erupted on the 400 block of Irvington Avenue at approximately 1:15 this morning, Lt. Daniel Saulnier said.
When police arrived, they found two 25-year old males inside the residence injured, one with an apparent gunshot wound to the back and one with a gunshot wound to the his lower right leg.
The victims told police that they were sitting on the front steps of the home when a male, dressed all in black, began walking towards them from the direction of Elmwood place, Saulnier said. The armed man began shooting at the victims and fled as the victims fled into the home, he added.
The individual who was shot in the back was transported to University Hospital and the male wounded in the leg was transported to Trinitas Hospital for treatment. Neither of the injuries appears to be life threatening, the lieutenant said.
A third individual, who fled from the front porch when shots rang out was also struck in the knee and was also transported to Trinitas Hospital for treatment.
