A victim suffering injury from overnight gunfire in Newark was transported by private vehicle to an Elizabeth Hospital .
Officials at the Trinital Hospital contacted police when a male victim entered the hospital's emergency department at around midnight.
According to reports, the victim told police that he was shot in the 900 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue shortly before arriving at the hospital.
Newark Police setup a crime scene on Frelinghuysen Avenue where they searched the area for evidence.
The victim's injuries were not reported as life threatening.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
