A press release issued to the community and the media overnight has police on the search for a suspect that they said is wanted for a shooting that occurred in Newark's West Ward.
Newark Police officials are reporting that they are seeking the public’s help in locating **Mr. Shamil Magre, 20,** wanted for an alleged shooting that occurred on Thursday, March 2, 2017.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers responded to the area of Sunset Avenue near Boylan Street to a call for shots fired at a person injured.
Director Ambrose said EMS transported the victim, a 22-year-old male, to University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Director Ambrose informed the community and the media that his detectives developed evidence that indicated Mr. Magre as the alleged suspect in this shooting that caused injuries to the victim and issued a warrant for his immediate arrest.
Though the charges lodged against Mr. Magre are mere allegations, Director Ambrose said his removal from city streets, to face his charges, in a court of law is imperative. Mr. Magre is innocent until proven guilty.
This investigation is active and ongoing.
