Police Arrest Man for Late March Newark Shooting

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Sharif Winters, 20, of Newark, who was wanted for a shooting that occurred on Sunday, March 26th.

According to Police, at approximately 3:15 p.m., police responded to the 100-block of Morton Street on a call of shots fired.

Upon officers' arrival to the scene, they found no injured victims, but detectives did locate evidence of property damage resulting from gunfire.

Director Ambrose said as part of their investigation, detectives developed evidence that Sharif Winters is the suspect wanted for the shooting and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Winters was observed by Community Focus Division officers yesterday at 14th Avenue and Jones Street Director Ambrose said.

Police arrested without incident and is charged with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

These are mere allegation lodged against Winters. He is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
